What is an End of Life Doula?

A death doula, also known as an end-of-life doula, is a professional who provides holistic support to individuals and their families during the end-of-life process. This role encompasses emotional, spiritual, and practical assistance, ensuring that the final phase of life is handled with dignity, respect, and compassion. Death doulas are trained to offer comfort, guidance, and resources to those facing terminal illness, aging, or end-of-life situations.

Services Offered by a Death Doula

 

1. Emotional and Spiritual Support

• Companionship: Providing a comforting presence and active listening to the dying person and their loved ones.

• Life Review: Facilitating conversations about the individual's life, accomplishments, and memories to help them find meaning and closure.

• Legacy Projects: Assisting in creating legacy projects such as letters, videos, or memory books to leave behind for loved ones.

2. Practical Assistance

• Planning and Coordination: Helping with end-of-life planning, including advanced directives, living wills, and funeral arrangements.

• Home Vigil: Offering continuous presence and support during the final hours, whether at home, hospice, or hospital.

• Caregiver Support: Providing respite and guidance to family caregivers, ensuring they have the resources and support needed.

3. Education and Advocacy

• Information Sharing: Educating families about the dying process, what to expect, and how to provide care and comfort.

• Advocacy: Ensuring the wishes of the dying person are respected and upheld, mediating between medical staff and family if needed.

 

Funeral Officiant Services

In addition to death doula services, we offer professional funeral officiant services. Our ordained ministers, certified by the Universal Life Church, are experienced in creating personalized and meaningful ceremonies that honor the life of the deceased. We work closely with families to design services that reflect the beliefs, values, and wishes of their loved one. Whether you prefer a traditional, spiritual, or non-denominational service, we provide a compassionate and respectful approach.

Transformational Reiki

Transformational Reiki is a healing modality that can provide profound comfort and peace during the end-of-life process. Our certified Reiki practitioners use gentle, non-invasive techniques to channel energy, helping to alleviate physical pain, reduce stress, and promote emotional balance. Reiki sessions can be especially beneficial for:

• Pain Management: Easing physical discomfort and promoting relaxation.

• Emotional Healing: Helping individuals process emotions such as fear, anxiety, and sadness.

• Spiritual Connection: Assisting in the transition process by fostering a sense of peace and acceptance.

Costs

At this time, insurance doesn’t cover end-of-life doula service. In the city limits of Milwaukee, my services generally cost $150 an hour with a two-hour minimum for basic services.  Packages are available below.  I charge $50 for an initial consultation and if you decide to utilize my services, that amount is deducted from the initial package you select.

End of Life Doula Essential Package

This death doula package offers compassionate, personalized support during life’s final transition. It includes a 30-minute Discovery Session and an Initial Consultation to honor your wishes. Together, we’ll create a meaningful Legacy Project and thoughtfully plan your Vigil. Guided imagery sessions and rituals are crafted to provide comfort and peace. Light housekeeping and errands are also included, allowing you and your loved ones to focus on what truly matters. This package ensures a peaceful, dignified transition, filled with love and care.  $1,500 (approximately 15 hours of service)

 

End of Life Doula Expanded Package

This death doula package offers compassionate, holistic support during the final transition. It includes a 30-minute Discovery Session, Initial Consultation, and assistance with creating a Legacy Project and planning the Vigil. Guided imagery sessions, rituals, and education about the dying process provide comfort and understanding. Light housekeeping and errands are included, allowing you to focus on what matters most. After death, I assist with necessary calls to family, friends, and the funeral home, ensuring a peaceful and dignified experience for all involved.  $1,850 (approximately 20 hours of service)
